Free Nordic walking taster sessions on offer - Shoreham & Goring
Free Nordic walking taster sessions are on offer in Adur and Worthing this summer. Nordic Walking, sometimes known as Viking Hiking because it came from Scandinavia, is an outdoor form of walking that uses specially designed walking poles. Poles will be provided for the one hour taster sessions.
Adur and Worthing wellbeing team have organised the sessions as part of their programme to promote healthy activities and lifestyles. Nordic walking is a great form of exercise and uses 20 per cent more energy because people use the upper body as well as the legs without any noticeable increase in effort and without undue strain to the participant.
It is a particularly effective form of exercise for older people who, due to balance and joint problems, and low fitness levels, are often afraid to take up vigorous exercise. The poles provide reassurance and help develop confidence.
Also for the first time, Children over 5ft are being offered the opportunity to come along with their parents or a family member to try the activity out for themselves.
