In June 2008 the Worthing Town Centre Initiative introduced ‘Town Centre Wardens’, dressed in burgundy uniforms, announcing they would be 'ambassadors for the town and will help both residents and visitors achieve the most from their visit to Worthing' whereas the local 'anarchist' newsletter, The Pork-Bolter, simply described them as the 'Burgundy Bullies'.
Also in June 2008 a small group of Pork-bolter supporters set off on a 'tongue-in-cheek celebratory tour of Worthing's CCTV cameras', to highlight the national debate concerning 'surveillance Britain' by photographing the CCTV cameras.
The Wardens and the Pork-bolters didn't exactly see eye-to-eye and it resulted in this hilarious or disastrous video, depending on your standpoint, that made the press, radio, TV and of course YouTube.
We'll let you decide if the wardens were acting as ambassadors or bullies?
