Mayor of Worthing Crowd-surfing

In May 2009 Worthing mayor Noel Atkins attended the Big Church Day Out, a sell-out Christian festival at the Wiston Estate in Steyning, and went 'crowd-surfing' clad in his mayoral chain!

His appearance at the event was his first official engagement as Worthing’s mayor and he certainly made an impact as he was held aloft of the roaring crowd for about three minutes.

Although Councillor Atkins confessed he had no idea of what he had let himself in for, he was seen grinning widely throughout and his 'performance' was met with approval from the 15,000 crowd and many more hearing about it via newspapers, radio, TV and of course YouTube.
